In 1955, NATO reorganized into two strategic commands-Atlantic Command and Allied Command Europe. AFCENT was established in Fontainebleau, France, to serve as Allied Forces Headquarters for forces assigned to the central region of Europe.
It was closed down and moved to Brunssum, the Netherlands in 1966 after Frances military withdrawl from NATO.
