The Junior tradesmans regt (Rhyl) had a sister unit at Troon.
They existed to fill the gap for those under adult service age to learn a trade.
Rhyl provided training in the trades of Driver, Driver/radio Op, Clerk and Medical assistant.
All Regiments and Corps had junior soldiers in these 2 units, being trained, technically and Regimentally in preparation for posting to their 1st Adult Unit.
Time spent depended on when you attained the right age and had passed Trade Training. Average time about 12 to 16 months

This was the JTR football team when we plkayed against Rhyl in a cup match in 1962. We drew 1-1 at Kimmel Park, but lost the replay 3-2 at Rhyl (I.m the one with glasses) This is a photgraph of the first intake in April 19629As you can see I’m the one in glasses on the right in the middle row.
