The Directorate of Military Operations and Intelligence was a deparment in the British Army War Office. It underwent several organisational changes during its lifetime. The first organisation that was later become the DMI was founded in 1854, by Major Thomas Best Jarvis during the Crimean War. In 1964, it was renamed to the Ministry of Defence.
