The Army Fire Service later became the Army Department Fire Service. The workers were mainly soldiers until the year 1959, after which it became civilianised.
It was also part of the RASC (Royal Army Service Corps), but then had its only unique identity which included a cap and badge and a stable belt. The Army Department Fire Service eventually became the Ministry Of Defence Fire Service.
The Army Fire Service were operational firemen and the War Department Fire Service, with a similar badge, were classed as fire patrol men.
The Army Fire Service became the Defence Fire Service in the nineties and joined a service of Navy Army and RAF note the civilian d side of this was the defence fire service and he military side was Defence Fire Services.
