Later Group Captain. Came to England to join the Royal Air Force not returning to New Zealand until 1965. Formerly Flying Officer with General Duties Branch 1940 later 15 Squadron. Served on the Active List of the RAF. Records show service no. as 36146 when he received his D.F.C., but N.Z. 2481 when awarded the V.C..
