Napoleonic War Records 1803 - 1815

The Napoleonic Wars were a continuation of the French revolution and comprise several wars declared against the French empire and Napoleon Bonaparte commencing in 1803 and culminating in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 where Napoleon was finally defeated and exiled to St Helena from where he would never return.

As well as involving nearly all the European nations in one of the first examples of mass conscription the wars spread through Egypt, America and South America and this period in military history saw the British army rise to become the foremost military power in Europe under the leadership of the Duke of Wellington.

Whilst the exact dates are often debated, Napoleon seized power in France in 1803 and this is the most commonly accepted start date and the Napoleonic wars were finally ended at the Battle of Waterloo on the 18th June 1815 with the signing of the Second Treaty of Paris.
