WAR ON THE EASTERN FRONT AS SMOLENSK SMOULDERS A German propaganda picture, received byway of New York, in which Nazi soldiers are claimed to be standing watching burning buildings inside the city of Smolensk. The scene might be anywhere, as desolation accompanies the aggressor wherever lie marches. Nazi sources describe the blazing ruin seen here as the town of Sluk. Maps of Russia give no town of this name, but show a place called S lutsk, 50 miles south of Minsk. An arm oured-car is preceding advancing enemy tanks. r 121
