The particulars of the British names given in the Register have been compiled from information supplied by the Record Offices and the next-of-kin. In all cases the relatives have been asked to furnish the personal information they wish to appear in the Register and where possible this has been given in their actual words. The particulars given in the Register of the Indian native names have been compiled from information furnished by the Record Offices of the Indian Army. The soldiers’ names are shown alphabetically under the titles of their respective Units, which are arranged in order of precedence. The name of the soldier is followed by the particulars of his rank, regimental number and date of death, and (where the information is available) by his father’s name and the names of the Village, Tahsil, District and Province from which he came.
