THE KING DECORATES FIRST AIR HEROES OF THE WAR DISPLAYING THEIR MEDALS The first five men of the R.A.F. to receive honours for gallantry in the war were decorated by the King at a home station on 2nd November. They are (left to right) Flying Officer Andrew McPherson, Acting Flight Lieut. T.M. Wetherall Smith, Acting Flight Lieut. K.C. Doran, Acting Flight Lieut. J. Barrett, and Sergeant W.E. Willits. CARRIED IN R.A.F. BOMBERS During a two-day tour of R.A.F. home stations the King saw this collapsible rubber boat automatically ejectcd from a bomber. It is intended to save the crew of aircraft shot down at sea. 421
