MON DAY ,SEPT EMBER 14,1914 One Halfpenny. ANTWERP’S “JOY DAY :GERMAN PRISONERS MARCHED THROUGH THE CITY EN ROUTE FOR ENGLAND. Antwerp has just spent the happiest day -she has known since the war began. As a .result of the sortie made by the Belgian Army about 1,000 prisoners were taken and they were marched through the city to the docks for transportation to England. The vessel which carried them was captured by the. British Navy from the enemy. The picture shows the men passing along one of the principal streets, l.arge crowds lined the pavements but their behaviour was admirable. (Daily Mirror photograph.) A number of prisoners were taken by the French after the fighting at Meaux. They all I Cross men—several of whom are wounded—in an enclosure outside a church, and th* seemed “deadbeat,’ and appeared very grateful for the food and the kindly treatment •second one a Turco being assisted to hospital by his comrade* The dash and bravery which they received from their chivalrous enemy.
