On Feb. 22 President Roosevelt asked Gen. MacArthur to transfer his H.Q. from the Philippines to Australia. When the General arrived thereon March 17, after an adventurous journey, he was appointed Supreme Commander of all the United Nations Forces in the South-West Pacific.^ Gen.
