-Aboard the troopship which is carrying them across the Channel, these British soldiers have donned the life-saving gear which will keep them afloat if a U -boat’s torpedo should make them take to the water. During the dispatch of the new British Expeditionary Force to France in September, 1939 ,not a single life was lost through enemy action, so thorough and unsleeping was the watch kept by the vessels of the Royal Navy entrusted with the guardianship of the troop -carrying fleet.
