Family© of Walt Vowles 2 Introduction Over the years Walt had told his war stories to the family. He recalled his experiences of becoming a soldier and infighting the Second World War. In 1990 when Walt was 70 his daughter realised that one day these stories would begone forever and it was important for future generations of the family to understand what he went through. So she bought him a dictaphone and asked him to record all of his adventures. And to make it easier she suggested that he tell their dog everything that he could remember. Using the dictaphone Walt went onto record quite a number of tapes. Many of the stories were familiar to the family. However there were many that they had not heard before. These obviously upset Walt ashe spoke and he can be heard crying quietly ashes narrating them. This book is the transcript of those tapes they are his stories in his words.
