Memorial Register, WW1, Staffordshire 1-78, Cemeteries and Churchyards in South Staffordshire

SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRE. THE Cemeteries and Churchyards included in this group cover the Southern industrial districts of the Administrative County of Stafford on and near the Warwickshire border. They are 78 in number and they contain 987 War Graves which maybe classified as follows :Soldiers o f United Kingdom units -891 Royal Air Force -------^Royal Navy --------35 Royal Marines- _______ 5 Overseas Military Forces of Canada- 5 Australian Imperial Force _____ 2 New Zealand Expeditionary Force- 1 Indian Army Reserve of Officers --1 Queen Alexandras Imperial Military Nursing Service- 1 Womens Royal Air Force- -----1 Merchant Navy -------jO f the British soldiers 210 belonged to the South Staffordshire Regiment, 15 to the Princc of Waless (North Staffordshire Regiment) and one to the Stafford­ shire Yeomanry (Queens Own Royal Regiment). The South Staffords sent twelve Battalions to service overseas and the North Staffords eleven. The Staffordshire Yeomanry served in Egypt and Palestine. The Staffordshire .F.AR .and the Staffordshire .G.AR .served in France and Flanders. The Registers are arranged under the Boroughs and Urban and Rural Districts in which the Cemeteries and Churchyards are situated and in the Rural Districts, the name o f the Civil Parish is added where it differs materially from that of the burial ground. The Registers record particulars of 987 War Graves.
