SOUTH-WEST HAMPSHIRE THIS REGISTER covcrs the County Boroughs of Bournemouth and Southampton the Boroughs of Christchurch and Lymington the Urban District of Milton and the Rural Districts of Christchurch Fordingbridge Lyming­ ton the New Forest Ringwood and South Stoneham. In that area there are 52 Cemeteries and Churchyards containing 1363 War Graves which maybe classified as follows :—Soldiers of United Kingdom units -877 New Zealand Expeditionary Force ---106 Australian Imperial Force -----76 Royal Navy (including one unidentified) and Royal Marines --------74 German Army (including four unidentified) --70 Overseas Military Forces of Canada ----56 Belgian Army (including two unidentified) 40 Royal Air Force -------38 South African Expeditionary Force (including one R.F.C. Officer and C.A.H.T. and S.A.N.L.C.) ---10 Indian Army --------3 Womens Royal Air Force-- 2 Merchant Navy -------2 Australian Munition and War Workers- 2 Queen Alexandras Imperial Military Nursing Service- 1 Royal Australian Navy ------1 French Army --------1 French Merchant Navy ------1 Admiralty Dockyard employee -----1 Unidentified British seaman -----1 German civilian internee ------1 Of the British soldiers 83 belonged to battalions of the Hampshire Regiment or to other county units. The Registers are arranged under the Boroughs and Urban and Rural Districts in which the Cemeteries and Churchyards are situated. They record particulars of 1249 War Graves and also of two soldiers whose graves are not known.
