FROM THE SANDS OF THE DESERT TO THE SANDS OF THE SEASHORE This little group of British soldiers are for the moment having a “cushy ”time. They are in a rest camp on the coast near Alexandria within sight of the sea. There was no home leave for the troops in Egypt, but after such a campaign as that which saved the Suez Canal, described in Chapter 178, Alexandria was the “next best thing.” Palms lined the ground above the beach, and sunshine without the fierce heat of the desert made it a paradise for the men after desert warfare. 978 ¦-'til
