THE Memorial Registersgiving particulars o f those who fell in the infighting the Ypres (now officially called by the Flemish name o f leper) Salient and who have no known graves contain some 89000 names. 54361 of these names are comm em orated on the Memorial Arch at the Menin Gate, Ypres (leper) and 34855 on the Memorial at Tyne Cot Cemetery Passchendaele. A description of these monuments and an account o f the military operations in the Ypres (leper) Salient are contained in an Introductory part o f the Registers comm onto both Memorials. This part should be consulted before any search is made for particular names on the Memorials. The Register o f the names on the Tyne Cot Memorial is issued in parts. Part I contains 1166 New Zealand names. Parts 2 to 24 contain 33687 names o f soldiers from the United Kingdom and one from Newfoundland (Part 3). Part 25 contains the names received too late for inclusion in their proper order on the Memorial. The following is a list in order o f date o f the Battles in the Ypres (leper) Salient in which the Corps and Regiments from the United Kingdom took part during the years 1914-1918. The names o f these Battles are given as they appear in the Report o f the Committee appointed by the Army Council to classify the battles and other engagements fought in the war. Ypres 1914.
