MUSIC WAS NEVERMORE WELCOME Miss Lena Ashwell, the distinguished actress, gave her whole time during the war to organizing concert parties at the Front. Famous musicians, actors and actresses volunteered their services, and the men of the B.E.F. immensely appreciated these entertainments. Here is the scene at a rest camp in 1916, during one of the concerts, with a crowd of soldiers sitting around the improvised platform 011 which a violinist is giving a solo.
