The Great War, I was there - Part 10

ONE RESTFUL MOMENT IN A GALLIPOLI TRENCH The month of May 1915 was marked by fierce day and night action at Gallipoli and, in spite of tremendous difliculties, the spirit and grim determination of the men remained unbroken. This photograph, taken during a brief lull in the fighting, gives a clear impression of the conditions prevailing in a crude front line trench on the Peninsula. Behind the ollicer in the foreground, a gunner stands on the fire step, with S.A.A. boxes at hand, ready to snatch away the ground-sheet cover of his Vickers gun and open fire.
