THE LAND OCCUPIED AS BRITISH WAR CEMETERIES IN FRANCE IS BY A LAW OF 29th DECEMBER 1915 THE FREE GIFT OF THE FRENCH PEOPLE FOR THE PERPETUAL RESTING-PLACE OF THOSE WHO ARE LAID THERE.BY A DECREE MADE ON 25TH SEPTEMBER 1920 BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC PERPETUAL CONCESSIONS HAVE BEEN FREELY ASSURED FOR ALL BRITISH WAR GRAVES IN THE CHURBHYARDS AND COMMUNAL CEMETERIES OF FRANCE. These particulars have been compiled from information furnished by the Record Offices and the next-of-kin. In all cases the relatives have been asked to furnish the personal information they wish to appear in the Register and where possible this has been given in their actual words. The number of the Plot is indicated by a Roman numeral following the entry, the Row by a capital letter and the Grave by a number. Thus II. B. 39., indicates Plot II BRow Grave 39. Special Memorials to officers and men known or believed to be buried in the cemetery are indicated by the letters ccSp. Mem.” following the entry by a number shewing the position in the group. Thus c c Sp. Mem. 2.” indicates Special Memorial Number 2. Other Special Memorials to officers and men whose graves have been lost are indicated by the name of the place of burial followed by a number. Thus“ Aizecourt-le-Haut Churchyard Extension Mem. 5.” indicates the fifth name on such Memorial Stones.
