AMERICA IN BRITAIN A U.S. NAVY BACKHAND AN AIRFIELD The Stars and Stripes was lowered and the R.A.F. ensign raised during the ceremony a t Dunkeswell in Devon which marked the handing over of the airfield thereby the U.S. Navy to the R.A.F. Dunkeswell airfield was the only U.S. Naval AirBase in Europe. In the foreground are U.S. naval officers who were stationed a t this airfield and on the aright detachment ot the R.A.F. R 'gim ent. FREEDOM OF A CITY FOR U.S. AIR FORCE A ceremony without precedent was observed a t Cambridge 011 2nd August when the 8th U.S. Air Force received the Honorary Freedom of the University city its chief leave-centre during the war. The photograph shows the 8th Air Force C.O. Genera William K epner inspecting R.A.F. and American contingents 011 this unique occasion. 50G
