His long journey reached its end close to Blenheim Palace, where it began more than 90 years ago. The quiet simplicity of the service in the country churchyard contrasted with the majestic solemnity of the State funeral in London. The funeral procession began at Westminster Hall where, up to six a.m. yesterday, a total of 321,360 people had filed past the catafalque during the three-day lying-in-state. Huge silent crowds lined the route to St. Paul’s. The Queen, Prince Philip, the Prince of Wales and other members of the Royal Family were in the Cathedral with many foreign Heads of State. MR.
