General Eisenhower V "-4 V Out of the sky they dropped on the enemy The Allied landing, which started at dawn (three a.m.), is proceeding according to plan. “The many beaches and landing places used for these first assaults overextended a distance of about 100 miles. “By about 6 a.m., under heavy fire from the covering force of cruisers, destroyers and gun­boats and other naval units, the enemy oppo­sition had been overcome and success of all landings had been already assured. “By about 7.30 a.m.our troops were advanc­ing and our artillery was being put ashore.
