These records, kept at TNA under reference QLIB4, contain nominal rolls and category lists for the commemorative medal issued to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the coronation of King George V. Those receiving the King George V Silver Jubilee Medal (1935) were civilians, including ministers, public servants, mayors, local government officers and police officers as well as those in the armed forces.
At this time the procedure regarding the awarding of the Coronation and Jubilee Medals was that the United Kingdom authorities produced the total number of medals. They then allocated a proportion to each of the Commonwealth countries and the three Crown Dependencies (territories for which the United Kingdom is responsible which are the Bailiwick of Guernsey, the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Isle of Man). The awarding of these medals was then at the discretion of the local government authority who decided who would receive the award and why.
Period covered: 1935
