These records are drawn from the rolls that comprise the WO 10, 11 and 12 files held at the National Archives.
The 1841 Worldwide Army Index lists all officers and other ranks subjects serving in the British Army at that point in time. Among the information provided is their regimental location – which we have taken to refer to their duty location. The record includes their unit – that is usually their regiment and the battalion which they belong to. The collection also gives their regimental number as well as their first name in full. Many records also contain further information such as where they enlisted or any previous units they have served with or other such miscellaneous information.
Please be aware that due to the way we collate, and cross reference our databases, some records will contain more information than that listed above.
