As well as all being very keen on military genealogy, the staff at Forces War Records have various interests in military history, politics, planes, tanks and life during the hard times of global conflict during WWI and WWII. We won’t be missing the opportunity to visit the ‘War and Peace Revival 2019’ show!
The show is one of the biggest in Europe, and will feature thousands of military vehicles, including tanks, artillery, armoured and amphibious vehicles, cars, Jeeps, bicycles and motorbikes, emergency and commercial vehicles and full-sized replica Spitfire, Hurricane and Me 109, to name a few.
The show also offers the chance to see what life was like for your military ancestor with military and vintage civilian re-enactors, living history, battle re-enactment, arena events and scenes providing a unique picture of life in conflict. There will be depictions from WW1 to the present day, showing British soldiers living in trenches, GIs in Vietnam and even British troops relaxing with their equipment after battle.
The incredible action-packed battle re-enactments feature not just a group of people running around playing soldiers, but a full-scale choreographed battle to give you a taste of the action at the Front Line.
Trade stalls will give collectors and shoppers the opportunity to browse through marquees packed full of treasures including militaria, antiquities, vehicle parts, books, memorabilia, clothing and uniforms, and all manner of essential finds for the discerning enthusiast – everything from a shirt button to a tank!
After all that shopping, you can also head to the Victory Marquee for free day-time vintage-themed entertainment, mainly from the 1940’s and 1950’s. You can even learn how to Jive from the simple lessons offered by professional dancers to get you in the mood. Evening entertainment for those staying onsite will include nightly music from across the generations (Access will be only for those wearing wrist-band passes.)
The Home Front Area is a complete ‘pop up’ village dedicated to portraying British civilian life in World War Two. Here you will go back to 1943 and enter the world of Trentham Village and that of RAF Upper Trentham, part of 11 Fighter Group and see a village at war. Each year, the Home Front has a different wartime theme, reflecting an original Government campaign to encourage the civilian population to ‘do their bit’ to help win the war. There is a lot to see in the Home Front! There are shops, a WVS canteen, a miniature steam railway (free to ride) and even a village Pub.
We would recommend this event to anyone, as it’s truly a great family day out.
