The Summerstown182 project are honoured that the Plaque will be unveiled by Sidney’s son Colin who will be attending with members of his family. A short ceremony including a recital and musical tribute, will take place at 934 Garratt Lane, just a few minutes walk from Tooting Broadway tube station. Afterwards there will be refreshments at St Mary’s Church and an opportunity for all ages to join a variety of activities. These will include a First World War themed Guided Walk lead by Rex Osborn, the chance to have your WW1 memorabilia and artefacts identified by experts from The Streatham Society, an opportunity to make your own WW1 postcards with artist Judith Lawton and an exhibition on 'Sidney Lewis in Tooting'. There will be talks about the project, showing what has been done so far, outlining the exciting future activities and advising how you can get involved.
So many of you will be already familiar with the Summerstoen182 project and what they have done over the past two and a half years. Whether you are a relative of the Summerstown182, have attended one of their Walks, taken an interest in their activities, or passed on knowledge about the area, you have all played a part. It would be wonderful to have you there on this special occasion to help them take their next big step to try to reach out to even more people.
If anyone leaving nearby is free to help them on the day, it would be most appreciated.
