A PROJECT to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War has been launched following a grant of £66,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The Somerset Remembers project will explore the long-term effects of the conflict on Somerset, and look at the many ways in which Somerset people, their families and communities have remembered the war. There will be many opportunities for people to get involved in the project, either through volunteering, sharing memories, records or artefacts or participating in activities and events. People with records relating to the war, such as photographs, letters and stories which have been passed down through the generations will be encouraged to upload them to an online community archive. There will also be a major exhibition at The Museum of Somerset, Taunton, in August 2014 and a touring exhibition will visit other venues across the county.
