Medals Rolls Index - World War 1 Medal Records

The Medal Rolls Index (also known as the Medal Index Cards) is the listing (approx. 4.8 million people) of individuals who fought in World War 1 and was created to keep a single record of a soldier’s medal entitlement due to the requirements that needed to be met in order to qualify for certain medals though nearly all soldiers who served abroad during the great war were awarded at least one medal.
The database also includes awards made to women in service as details of service personnel who were 'mentioned in despatches' – official reports where a soldiers actions that were deemed important and were published in the London Gazette.
