| HMS Anson |
  Dates: 1942 - 1951 There are seven vessels that have been named HMS Anson, the latest was commissioned in 1942, a King George V class battleship. She was originally to be named HMS Jellicoe but it was renamed Anson in 1940 during her construction. She served during the Second World War but was the only ship of her class not to fire her guns at the enemy. 1945 she was the flagship of the 1st Battle Squadron, British Pacific Fleet. She was scrapped in 1957. The other vessels named Anson were a 60 Gun fourth rate ( 1747 - 1773 ), 6 gun cutter ( 1763 - 1774 ), 64 gun third rate ( 1781 - 1807 ), a 74 gun third rate ( 1831 - 1851 ) - she was used as a convict ship from 1844, a 91 gun screw propelled battleship ( 1860 - 1904 ) - renamed HMS Algiers in 1883, an Admiral class battleship ( 1886 - 1909 ), a proposed Admiral class battlecrusier ordered in 1916 and cancelled in 1918 and finally HMS Anson was the original name of HMS Duke of York.
