Blyskawiscz built in our local shipyard here in Cowes I.W. for the free Polish. Same yard built H.M.S. Dainty,(N.Z.) Daring, Quinton, Quickmatch (aus).
The Blyskawisc is credited with saving our town from further destruction when under attack by Stuka bombers. Their guns were hot after firing all night. We have a plaque in their honour. Not a good photo.

Dates: 1946 - 1992

Tactical Air Command (TAC) (1946 - 1992) was a Major Command of the United States Air Force (USAF) charged with battlefield-level (tactical) air combat to include air superiority (offensive and defensive counterair), light bombardment, tactical nuclear strike, tactical reconnaissance, close air support of ground troops, battlefield air interdiction of enemy forces, and (until 1975) tactical airlift of ground troops, other personnel and associated logistical support to bases. TAC was also responsible for tactical ballistic missiles and tactical cruise missiles, although the latter role in the 1980s and 1990s was often delegated to United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) and Pacific Air Forces (PACAF).

"Had my 20th birthday in Plattling as part of a team of 1 Corporal and 5 airman manning the remote DF site outside the town. Deep in what was then the US Zone, we had a great time and were part of the town. We lived in the Hotel Preysinghof and had the cellar (Apostel Kellar) for our club. Still visit as part of a fire brigade (now much bigger) partnership and an honorary member of the local feuerwehr. My old haunting ground of Selkirk in the Scottish Boarders is now twinned with Plattling with many other partnerhips having been formed - all from my time there in 1965/66. "

"My memories of Kuantan are that much of my time was spent on the beach because we only had one aircraft a week to deliver our official mail. I remember watching a film while it was raining and you could hardly see the screen. One day the cooks set fireto the corrugated sheet over the field cookhouse. Got promotedto FS on this tour, and was very embarrased when I returned to UK for being awarded the GeneralService Malaya for my sojourn on the beach"

Does any body recognise me?
Scots Guards pirbright 1963
If so please contact sales@powerfast.co.uk 422AFAP RAF SCHEUNE HMS Swiftsure crew of 1944 --- contact for larger size I was at Bridgnorth from 24th April 56 through 26th June 56, in D Squadron. This was taken during the week before pass out when we were honing the fine points for the dreaded Drill Test , which our flight won. Removed bayonets from the turf just before the D I walked around the corner.
I am on the right. The guy on the left was a Taff from Weston-s-Mare. The one in the middle , I think, came from Liverpool. Unfortunately all other photos from Bridgnorth were accidentally destroyed. If anyone recognises anyone in the picture. please make contact. Thanks TROODOS DETACHMENT CYPRUS ABOUT 1970 The dry dock after the Campbeltown attack in March 42 I have uploaded these photos to see if anyone can remember me or see themselves.
