to go to THIRSK RACES.we took a short cut out past bomb dump to main road,as we walked we spotted a news paper on a
bench seat,we retrieved it and noticed the races had been marked.we carried on
to the course payed to go in.we pooled what money we had,&decided that as novices we would follow the marked paper, the fist horse won!so we backed
more, finishig up with 4 winners. We found out later that it was Billy Nevits retirement meeting .So my pal &I
had a good day agood meal &still got back to camp with some profit left." RAF Topcliffe in 2010Written by Richard Bond "I worked on crew trainers, Varsity and Valettas, from 1959-61. A varsity crew aborted take off one day when a dinghy deployed from an engine cowling , wrapping itself around the tailplane. Kite landed safely via a couple of farm fences, wrecking nose undercarriage . Crew OK. Aircraft repaired at Topcliffe Rectification hangar.I remember that food in erks mess was bloody vile."
