RAF Roetgen

RAF Roetgen was situated about 3 Kms. out of Lammersdorf , in the Schnee Eifel.Set amongst huge pine trees,(full of WWII shrapnel), atop a high point it was the site for 11 signals unit detachment, in the sixties, out of Rheindahlen, based at Hehn. The site still exists,(see Google earth) but the huge radio relay dishes have gone.

It was home to NATO, the RAF and a third area was occupied by the West Germans. This was at the time of the cold war.In 1969 , 11SU was taken over by a British Army signals unit.
