Garden of Remembrance in 2001

Written by David Campbell

On the 8th November 2001 my wife and I attended the Garden of Remembrance Service at Westminster Abbey, London. The high point of the day, I am sure for us both, took place during the 'Walkabout' of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. My wife and I were both fortunate enough to be in the rank closest to the path, along which the Queen Mother was travelling in her converted Golf Cart, and we were both rewarded by a handshake from this most gracious lady when she passed by. A day that shall forever live in my memory, especially as she has now passed away.

Written by beverley gregory

I WAS PART OF INTAKE 55/21 WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE CAMP 10 NOV 1955 ALONG WITH 20 OR SO TEDDY BOYS WHO WERE GOING TO SHOW THE ARMY WHAT WE WERE ALL ABOUT.
THAT WAS AT 09.00HRS BY 16.00HRS WE WERE WELL AND TRULY BEATEN ALL LOOKING THE SAME SAD BUNCH WITH ALL THE FIGHT KNOCKED OUT OF US.
ONCE THE CLOTHES WERE SENT BACK HOME IN THAT BROWN PAPER PARCEL IT WAS GAME SET AND MATCH TO THE ARMY.ARE WELL ONLY 729 DAYS TO DO.
I WONDER IF ANY ONE REMEMBERS THE 10 COMANDMENTS OF THE BRITISH ARMY ONE OF THE WAS -: THOW SHALT NOT PLAY GAMES OF CHANCE LEST A FEARFULL VOICE BE HEARD TO SAY RENDER TO ME THE NAMES AND LAST THREES AND LEAVE THE MONEY ON THE TABLE.THE 10th ONE WAS -: THOU SHALT LEAVE THIE BILLET FOR EVER AND ENTER THE WORLD OF THE CIVIE AND STUDY THE DOLE AND THE DRAWING THEREOF.
