5th Gurkha Rifles



The British Indian Army had ten Gurkha regiments and the 5th Royal Gurkha Rifles ( Frontier Force) was the only Royal and only one to have been in the Punjab Frontier Force. When India became independent in 1947 four Gurkha regiments (2nd,3rd,6th and 10th) transferred to the British Army and amalgamated to become the present Royal Gurkha Rifles.
