Queens Own Royal West Kent Regt



Served in both world wars. Served in Malaya during the emergency. Later posted to Luneburg, BAOR 8 in 1950s.

The Queens Own Royal West kent (50th of foot,they were also known as the "dirty half hundred following an heroic battle ) was amalgamated with the The Buffs the east Kent regt. about 1960 and became the Queens Own Buffs The Royal Kent Regt. part of the Home Counties Brigade and moved from the regimental headquarters in Maidstone to Shornecliffe before leaving for a year in Kenya where they were engaged in finally searching for remaining mau mau.then returning to the UK on the troopship TSS Oxfordshire(I believe its last use as a troopship before going to Australia as a cruise liner, it would have needed a lot of renovation.
