O Class patrol submarine of the Royal Navy. Built by Vickers-Armstrong at Barrow and commissioned on 5th July 1929. Crew: 58.
At the outbreak of WWII, she was deployed on the China Station with 4th Flotilla, subsequently joining 8th Flotilla at Colombo that Autumn, then 1st Submarine Flotilla at Alexandria in early 1940. May 1940 - Pennant Number changed to 92P for visual signalling purposes.
Came under ’friendly fire’ torpedo attack by HM Submarine Talisman in August 1941 - no hit.
Deployed at Simonstown for training duties in December 1943.
Paid-off and transferred to Reserve status at Simonstown in 1945, HMS Otus was scuttled off Durban in September 1946.
Later HMS Otus was Laid down in Scotts yard Greenock 1962 commissioned 1963
O class hunter killer Submarine. still afloat in the Baltic as a museum.
