HMS Vulture

Dates: 1843 - 1866

HMS Vulture was a steam-powered second-class paddle frigate of the Royal Navy. She was launched on 21 September 1843 and was used in the Crimean War Baltic theatre.

The ship was commanded by Captain Frederick Henry Hastings Glasse. The ship was decommissioned in 1866. The Vulture had 6 guns, and a displacement of 1,960 tons.

HMS Vulture II was an aerial bombing and gunnery range at Treligga, 2 km west of Delabole, Cornwall, United Kingdom.

The station was a satellite of the Fleet Air Arm base RNAS St Merryn (HMS Vulture) near Padstow, Cornwall. Although HMS Vulture II had landing strips they were however rarely used. Unusually, the entire operation at HMS Vulture II was staffed by the Women’s Royal Naval Service.
