| RAF Ajax Bay |
Added on 12/05/2010Ajax Bay was set around Jun 1982 it was a Radar Unit. The personnel lived in what had been the hospital at ajax bay in falkland sound during the conflict and worked on the radar (a 259 i think) which was up on the ridge. It was only in service for a short period untill cape awford (carra carra) radar stood up. W ewere known as albertross radar (or albert ross by the navy) and pretty much carried out air traffic duties althoough we were an air defence unit. there were normally about 20 guys on det there, made up of Ftr controllers, radar ops (scopies) eng personnel, cooks, a supplier, medic and mt fitter. it was a great little unit and i served with a great bunch of guys...
