| HMS Warrior |
Dates: 1946 - 1958 HMS Warrior (R31) was a Colossus-class light aircraft carrier built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast and commissioned into the Royal Navy on 25 January 1946. She was recommissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy as HMCS Warrior on 14 March 1946. Complement: 1,300. She returned to the United Kingdom and was recommissioned as HMS Warrior on 23 March 1948. She took part in the first British nuclear tests. She was then equipped with a flexible rubber flight deck to test the feasibility of landing undercarriage-less aircraft; the Sea Vampire was used to test the concept, which was successful but not introduced into service. HMS Warrior went into reserve in September 1949 but recommissioned in June 1950 as a transport for troops and aircraft to support British forces during the Korean War. She underwent refit during most of 1952 and 1953 at Devonport Dockyard, and after a brief return to service was again put in for refit on 14 December 1954. This time Warrior received a very slightly angled flight deck for trials. Warrior decommissioned in February 1958 and was sold to Argentina in 1958, renamed Independencia. She went into reserve in 1969 and was scrapped in 1971.
Memories of HMS Warrior
Hms Warrior/Raf Northwood in 1970Written by Bill Irving Contact this person >> "I met a WRAAF whose name was Joy Cox,
she was beautiful and so much fun to be with, she was engaged to be married.
But we became great friends, and were like brother and sister, inseperable.
I actually fell in love with her, she my first love, and I would have done anything for her, even married her.
She went off and got married and that broke my heart. I have tried to find her for years, to see how she is and what she has done with her life. she was my life and I missed her so much. But time is a great healer,, but I still
have her photo, and Just Would Love to Know Where She is and doing What??
It would make my days much brighter if I could hear from her just once!!!"
