HMS Lagos

Dates: 1945 - 1960

HMS Lagos (D44) was a Battle-class destroyer. She was built by Cammell Laird of Birkenhead and commissioned on 2 November 1945. Complement: 232.

In 1946, Lagos deployed to the Far East with the 19th Destroyer Flotilla. In 1947 the Flotilla, returned to the UK, visiting a variety of ports on show-the-flag visits, mainly in Malaya. On arrival in the UK, Lagos was placed in Reserve.

In 1957, Lagos joined the 1st Destroyer Squadron, seeing service with the Home and Mediterranean Fleets. The squadron joined the Far East Fleet in 1958. In 1959, Lagos and sister-ship, Solebay, towed HMS Hogue to Singapore in the aftermath of her collision with the Indian warship INS Mysore (formerly the Colony-class cruiser HMS Nigeria).

Lagos was decommissioned in 1960 and subsequently scrapped at Bo’ness in 1967.
