Black Prince’s captain (Inglis) was criticised for being too cautious and never achieving the vessel’s full speed. But Captain Inglis was a major shareholder in his ship and made sure that it did return very good profits.

The fifth and final Black Prince (81), launched in 1942, was a Dido-class (Bellona subclass) cruiser that saw extensive action in World War II, following which she was transferred to the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1946. She was decommissioned in 1962 and scrapped.
