HMS Ranee

Dates: 1943 - 1946

HMS Ranee (D03) was an Ameer class escort carrier of the Royal Navy, formerly the USS Niantic (CVE-46). She was built by the Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Corporation of Tacoma Washington, transferred to the United Kingdom under Lend-Lease and commissioned into the Royal Navy on 8 November 1943. Complement: 890.

As one of the 38 converted C3 escort carriers transferred to the United Kingdom, Ranee was used as an aircraft ferry in both the Pacific and Atlantic.

After the end of hostilities, HMS Ranee was converted to a troopship and engaged in returning service personnel from the Far East as well as allied civilians who had been interned by Japan. She was returned to U.S. ownership at Norfolk, Virginia, 21 November 1946.

She was subsequently sold into merchant service in 1947 to Rotterdamsche Lloyd as Friesland, re-sold in 1967 and renamed Pacific Breeze, and finally sold for scrap in Taiwan in 1974.
