The training of apprentice tradesmen in the Army presented the engineering and technical Corps of the British Army with a valuable source of manpower.

Starting as far back as 1923, the Apprentice School provided a centralised Training establishment for the Technical and Engineering Corps of the British Army where prior to the centralised school, apprentices were trained at 3 seperate establishments in Woolwich, Hilsea and Chepstow.

The training received by the personnel learning at the Apprentice school was in the same manner as that of civilian industry only these Boys were taught to be soldiers so they could take up posts in the capbadges that they were later to serve
