  Dates: 1941 - 1942 H.M.S. Airedale (L 07) An Escort destroyer of the Hunt (Type III) class, pennant L 07 she was built by John Brown Shipbuilding & Engineering Company Ltd. (Clydebank, Scotland) the Navy ordered her on 4th July, 1940 she was laid down on 20th November, 1940 and launched on 12th August, 1941 and commissioned on 8th January, 1942. Sadly she was lost while on Malta Convoy duties ("Vigorous") on 15th June, 1942 after being bombed and heavily damaged by German Ju 87 (Stuka) divebombers about 90 nautical miles north-east of Derna, Libya. Scuttled by H.M.S. Aldenham and H.M.S. Hurworth. Commanding Officer: Lt.Cdr. Archibald G. Forman, DSC, RN 8 October 1941 - 16 June 1942
