HMS King George V
K.G.V. nisits the Faslane

Dates: 1937 - 1949

The second ship to be named King George V after George VI instructed the Admiralty to change the name in honour of his father.
Built by Vickers Armstrong in Newcastle, she was commissioned in 1940. She took part in escort duties and the searches for the Scharnhorst and Gneisienau.
She was made flagship of the Home Fleet and took part in the Hunt for the Bismarck.
Later in the war she was involved in Operation Husky and transported Winston Churchill to Britain from the Tehran Conference.
After a Pacific tour, she had a short second spell as flagship of the Home Fleet until decommissioning in 1949.
