Memories of Army Catering Corp
Army Catering Corp, NCO’s Course Cyprus in 1956Written by Thomas Bowles Contact this person >> "Flying from Benghazi to Cyprus in a rattley airplane and being transported to out training camp in a coach with wire mesh over windows and armed guards aboard, our blokes done a great job there, then being under canvas at the teaching camp. we were taught drilling on parade, shouting orders etc, plus Hospital cookery course B2 for my posting in BMH Benghazi, I was there longer than expected due to bomb scares etc, so after the training we done more guard duties plus escort duties, then back to BMH Benghazi, during my time at BMH I was best man at Corpral Hamiltons Wedding to a nurse named June, then later on there was a cookery competion for the ACC in Cyrenaica then, now Libya, and I was entered for the Hospital BMH, for the INdividual Privates competition and I won, 295 points out of a possible 300, think my custard was a bit too runny or some thing, ha ha ha, anyway got the cup, which ended up in the Sgts/oficers mess... not very exciting but good memories though." Army Catering Corp, in 1961Written by CLIVE [COOKIE] TOONE Contact this person >> "MINDEN , GERMANY, WORKING IN THE COOK HOUSE AS THE CAMP BUTCHER, I WAS IN TOWN WITH A PAL FROM THE REME, WHEN THE POISEN DWARFS RIOTED AND WRECKED THE TOWN. SORRY I SHOULD SAY THE CAMS , BUT THEY WERE ONLY YOUNG KIDS, AND THEY DID END UP GETTING A BATTERING FROM THE M.P.,S I THINK A FEW CAM,S ENDED UP IN THE RIVER WESER. THE TIME WE WENT TO BELSON-BERGEN CONSETRATION CAMP 1960, A VERY SAD MEMORY." Army Catering Corp, in 1950Written by alec townend Contact this person >> "my memories are nothing particular except of the good times I spent with the boys of squad 8 at St Omer barracks in 1950.

"Hello Everyone, My claim to fame or infamy?? was taking the notorious Kray Twins to the Webb Boys club in the east end of London and me being the one that was expelled!!! We then signed on for National Service together putting down for the Army Catering Corps and then I was the only one of the three of us to be accepted. Would my life have been different otherwise? I doubt it. "
