The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMCS) is the initial training centre for officers in the British Army. Nearly 10 per cent of cadets in the Army are female and another 10 per cent come from overseas. The commissioning course lasts for 44 weeks.
The RMCS opened in 1947. After compulsary National Service ended in Britain and the Mons Officer Training School in Aldershot closed down, it became the sole establishment for the initial training of male officers in the British Army.
The history collection in the RMCS contains displays of the history of the Royal Military Academy Woolwich, the Royal Military College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
