HMS Dilligence
Ton class Coastal Mine Sweepers,

Added on 15/03/2010

A shore establishment based at Hythe nr Southampton and also known as the Coastal Forces Maintenance Base. The main function of staff was to oversee the maintenance of several Coastal Minesweepers, by Whites of the Isle of Wight, and were moored alongside the base in the river. These ships were in reserve in a state of preservation, being cocooned and Arked. There were also Inshore Minesweepers and Fast Patrol Boats land cradled in large sheds. The period I was stationed there was 1961-62 under the command of Cdr Bennett. Later (date NK) the base was de-commissioned and then taken over by the U.S.
