| Staffordshire Regiment |
Dates: 1705 - The Staffordshire Regiment officially gained its title in 1959, when he North and South Staffordshire Regiments amalgamated. However, it can trace its history back to 1705, when a regiment known as the 38th Foot was raised in Lichfield. The two regiments were involved in a number of notable conflicts. These included the Zulu War, the First and Second World Wars, the Gulf War and the Iraq War. In 2004, the Staffordshire Regiment amalgamated with the Cheshire Regiment and the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment to form the Mercian Regiment. In September 2007, it became the 3rd Battalion Mercian Regiment (Staffords). It is currently based at Tidworth, but it will move to Fallingbostel in Germany in 2009, where it will be permenantly based.
